Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform thorough pre-operative assessments and vital signs to ensure patient readiness for surgery
• Prepare patients physically and emotionally for procedures through clear education and reassurance
• Start and manage IVs, administer pre-op medications, and monitor patient responses
• Coordinate with surgeons, anesthesia, and OR staff to ensure smooth handoffs and timely case starts
• Document assessments, interventions, and patient education accurately in the electronic health record
• Maintain a safe, sterile environment and adhere to infection prevention standards
• Advocate for patients by communicating needs and changes in condition promptly to the care team

Qualifications

• Current, active RN license in Louisiana required
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• Experience or familiarity with pre-operative or perioperative nursing preferred
• Strong clinical assessment skills and comfort with IV therapy and medication administration
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills; able to coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

• Patient assessment and pre-operative evaluation

• Perioperative safety and infection control principles
• Clear patient education and discharge instructions
• Proficient documentation in electronic health records
• Collaborative communication with surgeons, anesthesia, and OR teams
