Roles & Responsibilities

Assess and monitor pediatric patients in the post-anesthesia care unit with vigilance and compassion
Manage pain and recovery needs using evidence-based PACU protocols
Collaborate with anesthesia, surgical teams, and families to ensure safe transitions of care
Document patient status and interventions accurately in the medical record
Provide clear patient/family education on recovery expectations and discharge instructions
Participate in orientation and team huddles to support a seamless patient experience

Qualifications

Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Missouri (or compact RN eligible)
Experience or training in PACU and pediatric nursing preferred
BLS required; PALS highly recommended for pediatric PACU care
Comfortable with post-anesthesia monitoring, airway management basics, and IV/pain management
Ability to pass required background checks and meet facility immunization requirements
Excellent communication skills and a team-first attitude

Education

Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing required; BSN preferred

Knowledge & Skills

Solid understanding of PACU protocols and post-anesthesia recovery
Pediatric assessment and age-appropriate care techniques
Familiarity with vital sign monitoring, pain assessment, and basic airway support
Charting and documentation proficiency (electronic medical record experience a plus)
Strong situational awareness and the ability to escalate concerns appropriately
