Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate post-anesthesia care to pediatric patients in the PACU
• Monitor patients’ vital signs and recovery status, responding quickly to changes
• Collaborate with anesthesia, surgical teams, and families to ensure smooth recovery
• Administer medications and treatments per orders and institutional protocols
• Document patient care accurately in the medical record and communicate handoffs clearly
• Participate in orientation and ongoing training to maintain high standards of pediatric care
• Support safe discharge processes and educate families on post-op care instructions

Qualifications

• Active RN license (ability to practice in Ohio required)
• Experience or training in PACU and caring for pediatric patients (preferred)
• Current BLS certification required; PALS and ACLS encouraged where applicable
• Comfortable with post-anesthesia monitoring, airway assessment, and pediatric medication administration
• Strong communication skills and a patient-family centered approach
• Willingness to complete orientation and competency validation as required by the facility

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
• Successful completion of an accredited nursing program and active RN licensure

Knowledge & Skills

• Post-anesthesia recovery protocols and pediatric monitoring
• Patient assessment, pain management, and airway vigilance
• IV medication administration and titration in a recovery setting
• Clear clinical documentation and effective interdisciplinary communication
• Calm, quick decision-making in fast-paced recovery situations
