Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate post-anesthesia care for pediatric patients, focusing on safe recovery and comfort
• Monitor and assess patients continuously, intervening quickly for airway, breathing, or circulation concerns
• Administer medications and pain management interventions accurately and timely
• Communicate effectively with surgeons, anesthesiologists, families, and the interdisciplinary team
• Document care thoroughly and clearly in the patient record
• Educate caregivers on recovery expectations, discharge instructions, and safety precautions
• Participate in unit orientation and support peers to maintain high standards of pediatric care

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license or eligibility to obtain RN licensure in Massachusetts
• Experience or strong interest in PACU and pediatric patient care
• Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification; PALS and ACLS preferred or obtainable
• Comfort with pediatric assessment, post-op monitoring, and IV/medication administration
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
• Willingness to complete facility orientation

Education

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN); BSN preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Post-anesthesia care principles and recovery protocols
• Pediatric assessment: vital signs, pain scales, developmental considerations
• Airway management basics and monitoring for post-op complications
• Medication administration and safe dosing for pediatric patients
• Strong documentation habits and clear handoff communication
• Teamwork, adaptability, and a patient-centered mindset
