Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality obstetric nursing care across Labor & Delivery, Postpartum, and Recovery
• Monitor maternal and fetal status, intervene quickly, and escalate when needed
• Float to the Med-Surgical floor when obstetric patient census is low and provide safe nursing care
• Collaborate with physicians, midwives, and interdisciplinary team members to coordinate patient care
• Document assessments, interventions, and patient education clearly and accurately in the medical record
• Educate and support patients and families through labor, delivery, and postpartum recovery
• Respond to emergencies calmly and effectively and participate in unit readiness
• Promote patient safety, infection control, and evidence-based best practices

Qualifications

• Current RN license (Iowa RN or compact/multi-state privilege as applicable)
• Prior experience in Obstetrics/Labor & Delivery, Postpartum, or Recovery preferred
• Comfort and experience floating to Med-Surgical units when needed
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; advanced certifications (ACLS, NRP) a plus
• Strong assessment, communication, and critical-thinking skills
• Ability to work nights and a weekend rotation (every third weekend) reliably

Education

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN)

Knowledge & Skills

• Skilled in labor & delivery nursing, postpartum care, and recovery procedures
• Solid Med-Surgical nursing knowledge for safe float coverage
• Fetal monitoring and maternal assessment principles
• Proficient in patient education, discharge planning, and family-centered care
• Clinical documentation and electronic health record familiarity
• Teamwork, triage, and time management in a fast-paced hospital environment
