Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess patients rapidly and accurately using skilled maternal and newborn assessment techniques
• Develop and implement individualized care plans for laboring patients and newborns
• Monitor fetal heart tracings and interpret findings, escalating concerns per protocol
• Provide hands-on maternal and neonatal care throughout antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum periods
• Educate patients and families on labor progress, postpartum care and newborn basics in a clear, compassionate way
• Respond promptly to changes in condition and participate in emergency interventions when needed
• Coordinate care with interdisciplinary team members to ensure safe, high-quality outcomes
• Maintain accurate documentation and complete required Prime competency and specialty assessments

Qualifications

• Current, valid state RN license required
• BLS required
• ACLS required
• NRP or PALS required
• AWHONN and Fetal Heart Monitoring certification preferred (AWHONN/FHM listed)
• COVID-19 vaccination/boosters preferred per facility policy
• Ability to pass Prime Basic Pharmacology, Core Competencies, Skills Checklist and Specialty Exam
• Successful completion of required health screenings and drug testing

Education

• Current and valid state RN license

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong maternal and newborn care knowledge including antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum care
• Proficiency in fetal monitoring and fetal heart interpretation
• Skilled in patient assessment, care planning, implementation and evaluation
• Comfortable providing patient and family education with empathy and clarity
• Ability to act quickly and accurately in changing clinical situations
• Familiarity with unit workflows and using chain of command to ensure patient safety
• Competent with documentation and meeting regulatory/licensure verification requirements
