Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide expert perioperative nursing care in the cardiovascular operating room, ensuring patient safety and sterile technique
• Prepare and maintain the sterile field, instruments, and specialized CVOR equipment for procedures
• Monitor intraoperative hemodynamics and communicate changes clearly to the surgical and anesthesia teams
• Assist surgeons and scrub as needed during cardiovascular procedures with precision and focus
• Perform thorough patient assessments pre-, intra-, and post-operatively and document findings accurately
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members to develop and execute individualized patient care plans
• Educate patients and families about perioperative expectations, recovery, and follow-up
• Participate in Prime competency testing and facility-specific skills assessments to maintain high standards

Qualifications

• Current, active RN license (ability to verify via Nursys and license/certificate verification)
• BLS and ACLS certifications required and up to date
• Experience in CVOR or cardiovascular/perioperative nursing strongly preferred
• Successful completion of Prime Core Competencies Exam, Prime Skills Checklist, and Prime Specialty Exam as required
• Ability to pass a Prime drug screen (minimum 10-panel), background check, fit test, and required health screenings
• Up-to-date immunizations: COVID-19, MMR, Hepatitis B, Influenza, Varicella, Tdap, TB testing or negative chest x-ray where applicable
• Strong critical thinking, clear communication, and teamwork skills in the OR environment

Education

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program (Associate Degree in Nursing or BSN); BSN preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Thorough knowledge of sterile technique and perioperative infection control
• Familiarity with cardiovascular surgical procedures and specialized instruments
• Skill in reading and interpreting hemodynamic monitors and EKG trends
• Proficient in surgical documentation and electronic medical records
• Ability to anticipate surgeon needs and manage operative workflow efficiently
• Calm, decisive performance under pressure and excellent situational awareness
• Commitment to continuous learning and passing required competency evaluations
