Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate mother-baby and postpartum nursing care, prioritizing safe recovery and evidence-based practice
- Perform fetal monitoring and maternal assessments, interpreting strips and escalating concerns promptly
- Conduct newborn assessments and support initial postpartum bonding and breastfeeding education
- Document thoroughly and accurately in EPIC, ensuring continuity of care and regulatory compliance
- Assist with vaginal exams and postpartum procedures as indicated by scope and facility protocols
- Collaborate with physicians, midwives, and the interdisciplinary team to coordinate individualized patient plans
- Respond to emergencies using ACLS/NRP protocols when needed and participate in unit readiness activities
- Teach and coach patients and families on postpartum care, newborn care, and discharge planning
Qualifications
- Current, valid RN license (Nursys verification)
- BLS required; NRP and ACLS required or strongly preferred
- Fetal heart monitoring certification preferred (AWHONN or equivalent)
- Demonstrated mother-baby and postpartum clinical experience
- Comfortable and proficient charting in EPIC
- Ability to pass required competency testing (Prime exams and skills checklist) and standard health screenings/vaccinations
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong knowledge of mother-baby physiology and postpartum care
- Skilled in fetal monitoring interpretation and documentation
- Proficient with EPIC electronic health record charting
- Competent in newborn assessment, basic newborn care and safety
- Excellent communication and patient education skills
- Ability to prioritize, triage, and escalate clinical issues quickly
- Familiarity with infection control, medication administration, and unit-based protocols
