Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide expert, compassionate care to laboring patients throughout labor, delivery, and immediate postpartum
- Monitor maternal and fetal status using fetal monitoring and clinical assessment to ensure safety
- Support and assist during C-sections, including scrubbing in when requested
- Perform neonatal resuscitation and immediate newborn stabilization as needed
- Manage postpartum circulation and monitor vital signs, recognizing and acting on changes promptly
- Document assessments, interventions, and patient education accurately and timely
- Collaborate with physicians, midwives, NICU staff, and interdisciplinary teams to deliver coordinated care
- Educate patients and families about labor progress, postpartum care, and newborn care in a supportive way
Qualifications
- Registered Nurse (RN) required; current and unencumbered RN status expected
- Hands-on Labor and Delivery experience and postpartum care experience required
- Current ACLS, NRP, and BLS certifications required
- Experience with maternal circulation monitoring and fetal monitoring
- Preferred experience: C-section scrubbing, NICU exposure, or pediatrics experience
- Ability to perform under regional performance expectations and respond to emergent situations calmly
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong fetal monitoring interpretation and intrapartum assessment skills
- Neonatal resuscitation and immediate newborn care (NRP)
- Proficiency in ACLS protocols and maternal emergency response
- Skilled in sterile technique and assisting in C-section procedures
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and patient education skills
- Accurate clinical documentation and charting mindset
- Ability to prioritize in high-acuity, fast-paced situations
