Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform timely, age-appropriate nursing assessments on patients presenting to the emergency department
• Complete ongoing reassessments and discharge assessments to ensure safe transitions of care
• Develop and implement individualized plans of care based on patient needs and physician orders
• Administer medications safely using the five rights and verify via med verify, evaluating patient response
• Communicate patient status and care activities clearly to the multidisciplinary team
• Document patient care accurately and in accordance with hospital policy and standards
• Participate in bedside rounding, MDT meetings, and collaborative discharge planning
• Maintain a safe environment by ensuring equipment and supplies are ready and functioning
• Actively participate in quality improvement projects and support department initiatives
• Respond appropriately to internal and external disaster events and drills as part of emergency management

Qualifications

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Maine or compact license required
• BLS certification required; ACLS certification preferred
• Immunizations required: varicella (2 doses or titer), HepB (3 doses or titer or declination accepted), MMR (2 doses or titer), Tdap, PPD 2-step or titer within past 12 months; flu vaccine during flu season
• BSN preferred
• Ability to perform physical tasks including standing, walking, lifting up to 30 lbs, and assisting with patient movement
• Strong critical thinking, verbal and written communication skills
• Able to pass onboarding and provide required credentials, agency W-9 and COI for workers comp and liability

Education

• Current RN license (Maine or compact)
• BSN preferred

• Nursing assessment across the lifespan and age-appropriate reassessments
• Medication administration and knowledge of drug effects and references
• Patient and family education and discharge planning
• Accurate documentation and specialty/supplemental nursing notes
• Care planning, prioritization, and execution of nursing interventions
• Emergency and disaster preparedness and response
• Patient safety practices and infection control precautions
• Collaboration with interdisciplinary teams and quality improvement participation
