Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide safe, high-quality nursing care to Neuro Stepdown (SDU) patients with attention to neurological changes and trends
• Continuously monitor and interpret telemetry, hemodynamic data, and neuro assessments to inform care decisions
• Administer medications, IV therapies, and treatments accurately and document interventions thoroughly
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams—physicians, therapists, and case managers—to create and revise patient care plans
• Anticipate patient needs, escalate changes in condition promptly, and initiate evidence-based interventions
• Educate patients and families about diagnoses, treatments, and discharge planning in a compassionate, clear manner
• Maintain accurate, timely charting and comply with unit protocols and safety standards

Qualifications

• Active RN license in Louisiana (or compact RN with Louisiana privileges where applicable)
• BLS required; ACLS and neuro-focused certifications preferred
• Prior experience in Neuro Stepdown, SDU, progressive care, or critical care is preferred
• Strong clinical assessment skills and comfort with telemetry and neurological monitoring
• Current ACLS/BLS certifications or willingness to obtain upon hire
• Professional, reliable, and able to work independently in a fast-paced environment

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Solid knowledge of neuro anatomy, common neuro conditions, and stroke care principles
• Proficiency with cardiac and neurological monitoring equipment and telemetry interpretation
• Skilled in IV management, medication administration, and infusion pump use
• Excellent clinical judgment, prioritization, and time management
• Strong communication and teamwork skills for collaborating with interdisciplinary teams
• Comfortable with electronic health record documentation and clinical workflows
