Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide direct respiratory care and treatments that improve patient breathing and comfort
• Assess and monitor patient respiratory status, reporting changes promptly to the care team
• Administer and manage oxygen therapy and ventilator support as appropriate
• Perform diagnostic procedures such as airway management and ABG collection
• Document patient assessments, interventions, and responses accurately in the medical record
• Collaborate with nurses, physicians, and allied health staff to deliver coordinated care
• Participate in orientation, training, and quality improvement activities to enhance care delivery

Qualifications

• Licensed Respiratory Therapist (RT) or Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT); eligibility for Missouri licensure if not currently licensed
• Current BLS certification (advanced life support credentials as required or preferred by facility)
• Comfortable working in a hospital setting and collaborating on interdisciplinary teams
• Strong clinical judgment, communication skills, and attention to documentation detail

Education

• Associate’s degree in Respiratory Therapy or equivalent accredited respiratory care program

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficient in respiratory assessments, oxygen therapy, and airway management
• Experience with ventilator settings and troubleshooting is highly valuable
• Ability to interpret arterial blood gases and monitor respiratory trends
• Clear communication skills for patient interaction and interdisciplinary collaboration
• Familiarity with electronic medical records and accurate clinical documentation
