Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, evidence-based nursing care to patients during assigned shifts
- Perform NIHSS stroke assessments accurately and document findings in the chart
- Monitor and interpret fetal heart tracings and perform AWHONN-guided fetal assessments
- Execute neonatal resuscitation steps per NRP when needed and support delivery room care
- Respond to cardiac emergencies using ACLS and BLS protocols
- Complete Trinity Specialty Specific Competency Testing and maintain skill checklists
- Ensure licensure and required credentials are current and verified prior to start
- Participate in handoffs, interdisciplinary rounds, and clear patient/family communication
Qualifications
- Active RN license for Iowa (required)
- Current NIHSS certification
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications
- Current NRP certification for neonatal resuscitation
- AWHONN certification or demonstrated fetal heart monitoring competency
- Completion of Trinity Specialty Specific Competency Testing and Trinity Skills Checklist
- Completed required health screenings and immunizations (PPD/IGRA, fit test, drug screen, Tdap, MMR, Hep B, Varicella, COVID-19, influenza)
- Comfort working weekend rotations and adapting to varied shift patterns
Education
- Active RN license required; ADN or BSN preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Skilled in stroke assessment using NIHSS
- Proficient with fetal heart monitoring and maternal-fetal assessment
- Experienced in neonatal resuscitation (NRP) and immediate newborn care
- Strong ACLS and BLS emergency response skills
- Competent with electronic health record documentation and handoffs
- Knowledgeable about infection control, fit testing and workplace screening requirements
- Able to complete and maintain Trinity competency testing and checklists
