Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate direct patient care including bathing, grooming, feeding, and toileting assistance
• Assist with safe patient transfers and mobility, using proper body mechanics and lifting equipment
• Take and record vital signs accurately and report changes to nursing staff promptly
• Support a safe, clean environment by following infection control and safety protocols
• Document care activities and observations clearly and timely in the patient record
• Collaborate with RNs, providers, and security staff to ensure coordinated, respectful care in a correctional medical setting
• Participate in mandatory training and demonstrate competence after the training week

Qualifications

• Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) credential valid in California
• Able to work Monday-Friday evenings (3:00 PM - 11:30 PM) after a daytime training week
• Willingness to work in a correctional facility environment (Valley State Prison)
• Current BLS/CPR certification preferred or willing to obtain during onboarding
• Pass required background checks, immunizations/TB screening, and facility clearance

Education

• High school diploma or GED
• Completion of an accredited/state-approved CNA program

Knowledge & Skills

• Hands-on patient care skills: bathing, toileting, feeding, and mobility assistance
• Vital sign measurement and basic clinical observation
• Strong communication and teamwork in fast-paced environments
• Infection prevention, hand hygiene, and safe handling procedures
• Professional boundary management and de-escalation techniques appropriate for correctional healthcare settings
• Reliable documentation and time management
