Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, evidence-based nursing care to laboring patients and newborns, using fetal heart monitoring to guide care
- Perform neonatal resuscitation and urgent interventions following NRP protocols when required
- Collaborate with physicians, midwives, and the perinatal team to develop and implement safe delivery plans
- Accurately document assessments, interventions, and patient education in the medical record
- Complete Trinity specialty competency testing and skills checklists to maintain clinical excellence
- Educate and support patients and families through labor, delivery, postpartum recovery, and discharge planning
- Assist with triage, admissions, rapid responses, and unit workflow to ensure patient safety and continuity of care
Qualifications
- Active RN license (facility will verify license and certifications)
- BLS certification (required)
- ACLS certification (required)
- NRP certification (required)
- AWHONN and Fetal Heart Monitoring certification (required)
- Completion of Trinity specialty competency testing and Trinity skills checklist
- Current occupational health requirements: Fit test, Tdap, COVID-19 vaccine, MMR, Hepatitis B, Influenza vaccine, 2-step PPD or IGRA, Varicella, physical/health statement, and Trinity 10-panel drug screen
- Comfort with rotating schedules and providing holiday coverage as needed
Knowledge & Skills
- Fetal heart monitoring interpretation and electronic fetal monitoring best practices
- Labor and delivery, postpartum, and early newborn care fundamentals
- Neonatal resuscitation (NRP) and basic/advanced life support in maternal-child settings (BLS/ACLS)
- Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and documentation skills
- Excellent communication and teamwork in high-acuity, multidisciplinary environments
- Adaptability to rotating shifts and changing unit needs
