Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform and interpret Modified Barium Swallow Studies and clearly communicate findings and treatment plans to patients
• Conduct bedside swallow evaluations and create individualized dysphagia management plans
• Provide cognitive rehabilitation assessments for chemo and surgery related cognitive changes
• Manage patients with tracheostomies and ventilator-associated needs, including use of Passy-Muir valves and suctioning
• Coordinate closely with dietitians, nursing and other disciplines to modify diets and support safe oral intake
• Document thoroughly in Epic and complete required billing and reassessments per payer rules
• Deliver patient and family education that empowers recovery and safe transitions
• Work independently on the unit while maintaining strong lines of communication with interdisciplinary teams

Qualifications

• State license in hand at time of submission is REQUIRED
• Minimum 1 year of SLP clinical experience required; no new graduates
• Certifications required: BLS and MBSImP
• Preferred certifications: CCC-SLP and FEES
• Comfortable working independently in an acute care setting across inpatient and adult outpatient populations
• Experience with Modified Barium Swallow Studies, bedside swallow evaluation, dysphagia management and trach/vent care
• Familiarity with Epic documentation and Medicare/Medicaid documentation requirements

Knowledge & Skills

• Expertise in dysphagia assessment and treatment including MBSS and FEES techniques
• Skilled in hyolaryngeal exercises, diet modifications and use of thickening agents
• Experience with tracheostomy and ventilator-dependent patient management
• Strong cognitive assessment skills and experience with tools like BAE, ALPS and BIMS
• Ability to provide clear patient and family education and in-service training to staff
• Comfortable with SLP evaluation coding, point of service documentation, and payer-specific documentation
• Collaborative approach to multidisciplinary care and care coordination
