Roles & Responsibilities
- Assist patients with activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, grooming) with dignity and kindness
- Monitor and record vital signs and report any changes to nursing staff promptly
- Provide safe transfer and mobility assistance to reduce fall risk and promote independence
- Perform hands-on personal care while following infection control and safety protocols
- Document care accurately and timely to support continuity and quality of care
- Collaborate with nurses and interdisciplinary team members to deliver person-centered care
- Create a warm, reassuring environment for patients and their families
Qualifications
- Current CNA certification (state-certified; Maine preferred or eligible to obtain)
- CPR/BLS certification required or must be obtained per facility policy
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Ability to pass background check, drug screen, and required health screenings (e.g., TB)
- Strong communication skills, compassion, and ability to work well in a team
- Previous CNA experience preferred but enthusiastic, caring new grads may be considered
Education
- High school diploma or GED required; CNA certification required
Knowledge & Skills
- Knowledge of basic patient care techniques and safe transfer methods
- Ability to take and document accurate vital signs
- Familiarity with infection prevention and control practices
- Basic charting and documentation skills
- Time management and the ability to prioritize patient needs
- Strong interpersonal skills and a patient-first attitude
