Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide attentive, compassionate bedside care and build strong patient/family connections
• Prioritize and manage caseloads on a 20-bed PCU, maintaining safe patient ratios
• Perform thorough patient assessments and document care accurately in Meditech
• Monitor telemetry and interpret EKGs to detect changes in patient status
• Start and manage IVs, including IV pump operation and medication administration
• Perform wound care and manage surgical drains, chest tubes and nasogastric tubes
• Participate in bedside shift report and contribute to a coordinated plan of care
• Float to other units when scheduled and collaborate with unit secretaries and techs

Qualifications

• Active RN license (current and in good standing)
• Minimum 2 years of clinical nursing experience (Med/Surg and telemetry experience preferred)
• Current BLS certification required
• Comfortable with 12-hour night shifts and rotating weekend coverage
• Proven ability to prioritize, multitask and provide compassionate patient-centered care
• Competence with telemetry monitoring, IV starts, wound care and basic drain/tube management
• Experience documenting in Meditech or similar electronic health record systems

Knowledge & Skills

• Patient prioritization and strong clinical judgment in acute care settings
• Telemetry monitoring and basic EKG interpretation
• IV insertion, IV pump and medication pump management
• Wound care and maintenance of surgical drains, chest tubes and nasogastric tubes
• Patient assessment, documentation best practices and Meditech navigation
• Use of feeding pumps, PCA devices, bladder scanner and routine unit equipment
• Effective communication using iMobile-style technologies and bedside shift report
• Ability to work within team staffing models and follow floating rotation policies
