Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-acuity post-operative and critical care for cardiovascular surgery patients with precision and compassion
• Monitor and interpret hemodynamic data, titrate vasoactive drips, and respond to changes rapidly
• Manage ventilators, assist with weaning, and provide advanced respiratory support
• Collaborate closely with cardiothoracic surgeons, intensivists, and the multidisciplinary team to optimize outcomes
• Perform thorough assessments and maintain accurate, timely documentation in the patient record
• Educate patients and families about care plans, recovery expectations, and discharge needs
• Participate in unit safety initiatives, quality improvement, and evidence-based practice

Qualifications

• Active RN license in the state of practice or ability to obtain Texas RN licensure prior to start
• Minimum 1 year of recent CVICU experience (as stated in the job details)
• Current Basic Life Support certification; Advanced Cardiac Life Support typically required by facility
• Strong critical thinking, clinical assessment, and emergency response skills
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced critical care environment and collaborate with a team

Education

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN)

Knowledge & Skills

• Expertise in hemodynamic monitoring and interpretation
• Proficiency with ventilator management and post-op cardiac care
• Familiarity with vasoactive medication titration and advanced cardiac life support
• Skilled in ICU-level assessments, central line and arterial line care
• Comfortable with electronic medical record documentation and handoffs
• Excellent communication with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams
