Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate direct care and assist residents with activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, toileting, grooming)
• Support safe transfers and mobility assistance while promoting independence
• Monitor residents’ condition, report changes to nursing staff, and follow care plans
• Perform basic clinical tasks such as taking and documenting vital signs accurately
• Maintain a clean, safe and respectful environment for residents
• Communicate effectively with residents, families, and the interdisciplinary care team
• Document care in a timely and accurate manner following facility protocols
• Participate in infection prevention practices and safety procedures

Qualifications

• Current GNA certification (required)
• State registration or licensure as applicable for Maryland
• CPR/BLS certification preferred or required per facility policy
• Ability to pass background checks and meet facility health requirements (e.g., immunizations, TB screening)
• Previous experience in long-term care or geriatric settings preferred
• Strong communication skills, empathy, and a patient-centered attitude

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent
• GNA certification or equivalent state-approved program completion

Knowledge & Skills

• Knowledge of geriatric care principles and resident-centered approaches
• Comfortable assisting with ADLs and safe patient handling techniques
• Basic vital sign measurement and reporting
• Familiarity with charting and documentation best practices
• Good observational skills to notice and report changes in condition
• Teamwork, professionalism, and a positive attitude under pressure
