Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate direct care and assist residents with activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, toileting, grooming)
- Support safe transfers and mobility assistance while promoting independence
- Monitor residents’ condition, report changes to nursing staff, and follow care plans
- Perform basic clinical tasks such as taking and documenting vital signs accurately
- Maintain a clean, safe and respectful environment for residents
- Communicate effectively with residents, families, and the interdisciplinary care team
- Document care in a timely and accurate manner following facility protocols
- Participate in infection prevention practices and safety procedures
Qualifications
- Current GNA certification (required)
- State registration or licensure as applicable for Maryland
- CPR/BLS certification preferred or required per facility policy
- Ability to pass background checks and meet facility health requirements (e.g., immunizations, TB screening)
- Previous experience in long-term care or geriatric settings preferred
- Strong communication skills, empathy, and a patient-centered attitude
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent
- GNA certification or equivalent state-approved program completion
Knowledge & Skills
- Knowledge of geriatric care principles and resident-centered approaches
- Comfortable assisting with ADLs and safe patient handling techniques
- Basic vital sign measurement and reporting
- Familiarity with charting and documentation best practices
- Good observational skills to notice and report changes in condition
- Teamwork, professionalism, and a positive attitude under pressure
