Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess and monitor patients recovering from spine/ortho surgeries and medical-surgical conditions, ensuring safe, individualized care
• Provide emergency department support as needed, triaging and stabilizing patients with urgency and clinical confidence
• Administer medications, manage IVs, and follow postoperative care plans to promote recovery and prevent complications
• Collaborate with surgeons, physicians, and interdisciplinary team members to coordinate timely, patient-centered care
• Educate patients and families about postoperative instructions, discharge planning, and self-care to support safe transitions home
• Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the patient record and communicate changes in condition promptly
• Step up during holidays and peak periods to ensure continuity of high-quality care

Qualifications

• Current, unrestricted Colorado RN license required
• Current ACLS, BLS, PALS, and TNCC certifications required
• Experience caring for Spine/Ortho post-operative patients with strong Med/Surg and Emergency Department background
• Comfortable working with a patient ratio up to 1:5
• Willingness to work holidays as scheduled
• COVID-19 vaccination as required by state mandate or facility policy

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong postoperative care skills for spine and orthopedic patients
• Med/Surg assessment and management, including pain control and complication recognition
• Emergency triage and rapid clinical decision-making
• Proficient in lifesaving protocols (ACLS, PALS) and trauma response (TNCC)
• Competent medication administration, IV therapy, and post-op dressing/wound care
• Clear communication, teamwork, and patient/family education skills
• Accurate clinical documentation and time management in a busy unit
