Roles & Responsibilities
- Assess surgical patients before and during procedures and develop individualized, safety-focused care plans
- Implement, evaluate, and adjust perioperative nursing interventions throughout the case
- Provide leadership in the OR by supervising room activity and coordinating schedule changes
- Assemble and verify equipment and supplies, support anesthesia as needed, and monitor the sterile field
- Communicate clearly and compassionately with patients, families, physicians, the OR team and ancillary departments
- Document patient care accurately and thoroughly in Epic
- Participate in staff development through preceptorship and continuing education to strengthen the team
Qualifications
- Active Michigan RN license (LARA or Nursys must show active status)
- 3+ years of CVOR experience required
- Open heart surgery experience required
- Active American Heart Association BLS
- Active American Heart Association ACLS
- Experience with general, neuro, and ortho cases highly preferred
- Recent travel work history is highly preferred
- Skills checklist current within 1 year (CVOR), and two supervisory references completed within the last two years
Knowledge & Skills
- Perioperative nursing and patient assessment tailored to surgical care
- Sterile field maintenance and aseptic technique expertise
- OR team leadership, clear communication, and care planning
- Strong documentation skills in Epic
- Patient safety focus and the ability to anticipate intraoperative needs
- Ability to assemble and verify specialized surgical equipment and supplies
- Experience supervising room activity and coordinating with anesthesia and ancillary teams
