Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess surgical patients before and during procedures and develop individualized, safety-focused care plans
• Implement, evaluate, and adjust perioperative nursing interventions throughout the case
• Provide leadership in the OR by supervising room activity and coordinating schedule changes
• Assemble and verify equipment and supplies, support anesthesia as needed, and monitor the sterile field
• Communicate clearly and compassionately with patients, families, physicians, the OR team and ancillary departments
• Document patient care accurately and thoroughly in Epic
• Participate in staff development through preceptorship and continuing education to strengthen the team

Qualifications

• Active Michigan RN license (LARA or Nursys must show active status)
• 3+ years of CVOR experience required
• Open heart surgery experience required
• Active American Heart Association BLS
• Active American Heart Association ACLS
• Experience with general, neuro, and ortho cases highly preferred
• Recent travel work history is highly preferred
• Skills checklist current within 1 year (CVOR), and two supervisory references completed within the last two years

Knowledge & Skills

• Perioperative nursing and patient assessment tailored to surgical care
• Sterile field maintenance and aseptic technique expertise
• OR team leadership, clear communication, and care planning
• Strong documentation skills in Epic
• Patient safety focus and the ability to anticipate intraoperative needs
• Ability to assemble and verify specialized surgical equipment and supplies
• Experience supervising room activity and coordinating with anesthesia and ancillary teams
