Roles & Responsibilities
- Lead the infection prevention and control program: develop, implement, update, and maintain policies and procedures aligned with CDC, CMS, OSHA, FDA, TJC, and APIC standards
- Conduct surveillance, collect and analyze infection data, and prepare reports for NHSN and other regulatory agencies
- Translate surveillance findings into actionable recommendations and system-level improvements
- Design and deliver education and training for staff, patients, families, and community partners on infection prevention best practices
- Chair the IPC committee and collaborate across clinical, medical, administrative, and public health teams
- Oversee Employee Health program activities and ensure timely reporting of IPC measures and outcomes
- Travel to SEARHC sites to assess practices, provide training, and support local teams in infection prevention
Qualifications
- Current full, unrestricted Registered Nursing (RN) license in Alaska or another U.S. state (agency staff must have an active Alaska license; direct hire should have applied for Alaska license before start)
- Certification in Infection Control and Prevention (CIC) required
- BLS (Basic Life Support) current within 3 months of hire and maintained biannually
- Minimum 3 years of acute care and/or infection control experience and/or data collection and performance improvement/risk management experience
- Clinical competency and manager competency assessments completed within specified timeframes (within 3 months and every three years)
- Experience with basic statistics, epidemiologic principles, NHSN reporting, and data-driven quality improvement
- Strong communication skills with the ability to tailor education to diverse audiences
Education
- Bachelor's degree in a healthcare-related field (nursing, public health, epidemiology, microbiology, or similar) required
- Master's degree (MPH or MSN) preferred
- High school diploma or equivalent noted as minimum credential in the job posting
Knowledge & Skills
- Infection prevention and control principles, surveillance, and reporting (NHSN)
- Epidemiology, data analysis, and basic statistics for healthcare-associated infection monitoring
- Policy development, performance improvement, and risk management methodologies
- Proficiency in MS Office and database applications for data collection and reporting
- Ability to synthesize regulatory requirements and implement evidence-based practices
- Project management, staff education, and cross-functional collaboration skills
