Roles & Responsibilities

Assess and deliver high-acuity nursing care for spinal, neuro, trauma and surgical patients
Provide expert care for complex presentations including gunshot wounds, quadriplegia and paraplegia
Manage assigned patient load with a typical ratio of about 5:1 while maintaining safety and quality
Document patient care and transitions thoroughly using EPIC
Coordinate care with phlebotomists, nursing support techs, unit secretaries and the ED during handoffs
Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to implement care plans and support patient recovery
Participate in effective patient handoffs from ED and admitting to ensure continuity of care

Qualifications

BLS required
ACLS preferred
EPIC proficiency required
Minimum 2 years experience in the specialty (high-acuity/trauma/surgical) as stated
Comfort working flexible, rotating shifts and managing a high-acuity patient population
Strong communication skills for effective handoffs and interdisciplinary collaboration

Knowledge & Skills

High acuity nursing and trauma care
Surgical nursing principles and post-op care
EPIC charting and electronic documentation
Effective patient handoff techniques and shift reporting
Coordination with phlebotomy and support staff
Critical thinking, prioritization and time management in a fast-paced unit
