Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive eye examinations and vision screenings with care and precision
• Diagnose and manage common ocular conditions and refer when needed
• Provide evidence-based treatment plans and patient education to improve outcomes
• Fit and evaluate corrective lenses and monitor therapeutic responses
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation and ensure compliance with facility protocols
• Collaborate with medical staff at the facility to coordinate patient care
• Participate in orientation and occasional schedule adjustments as required by coverage needs

Qualifications

• Active California Optometrist license (required)
• Doctor of Optometry (OD) or equivalent (required)
• Experience in clinic-based optometry preferred, comfortable with 8- to 10-hour clinic days
• Ability to work Tuesdays and occasional additional weekdays as scheduled
• Strong communication skills and a patient-centered approach

Education

• Doctor of Optometry (OD) or equivalent

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficiency in comprehensive eye exams and ocular disease recognition
• Skill in prescribing and dispensing corrective lenses
• Familiarity with clinical documentation best practices and basic EHR use
• Comfort working in a correctional facility environment and following facility protocols
• Excellent patient communication and teamwork skills
