Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive eye exams and vision care for patients in the facility
• Diagnose and manage ocular disease and vision conditions with appropriate treatment plans
• Perform refractions and determine prescriptions for corrective lenses
• Fit and educate patients on contact lenses and optical devices when appropriate
• Document examinations and treatments accurately in the medical record
• Collaborate with facility medical staff to ensure coordinated, patient-centered care
• Adhere to facility policies, safety protocols, and infection control procedures

Qualifications

• Doctor of Optometry (OD) degree required or completion of equivalent optometry training
• Active California optometry license or eligibility to obtain licensure in California
• Clinical optometry experience preferred; experience in institutional or correctional settings is a plus
• Strong patient communication skills and ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
• Willingness to complete required background checks, TB screening, and facility onboarding

Education

• Doctor of Optometry (OD) from an accredited institution

Knowledge & Skills

• Comprehensive eye exam techniques and refraction skills
• Experience diagnosing and managing common ocular diseases
• Contact lens fitting and patient education
• Proficient clinical documentation and basic EMR skills
• Good clinical judgment, attention to detail, and strong interpersonal skills
