Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive eye exams and vision services for adult patient population
• Diagnose and manage ocular disease and prescribe appropriate treatments or referrals
• Perform refractions and recommend corrective lenses or contact lens fittings as needed
• Document patient encounters accurately in the medical record and maintain clinical compliance
• Collaborate with the correctional facility medical team to ensure coordinated, safe care
• Triage and address urgent ocular complaints, escalating to specialty care when appropriate
• Contribute to a patient-first environment by educating patients on eye health and follow-up care

Qualifications

• Active California optometrist license required
• Doctor of Optometry (OD) degree required
• Current BLS (Basic Life Support) preferred
• Background check and ability to pass facility security/clearance required
• Comfortable working in a correctional healthcare setting preferred
• 1+ years of clinical optometry experience preferred, but new graduates with strong clinical skills are welcome to apply

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficient in refraction, slit lamp exam, and ocular disease recognition
• Experience with contact lens fitting and spectacle prescription
• Strong clinical documentation skills and familiarity with electronic medical records
• Excellent communication and patient education abilities
• Ability to work effectively as part of an interdisciplinary medical team
• Triage skills and sound clinical judgment for urgent eye issues
