Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive eye exams and vision assessments for patients
• Diagnose and manage common ocular conditions within scope of practice
• Prescribe corrective lenses and recommend appropriate optical devices
• Document clinical findings clearly and maintain accurate patient records
• Collaborate with medical staff to coordinate patient care in the facility
• Ensure infection control and safety protocols are followed during exams
• Educate patients on eye health, treatment plans, and follow-up needs

Qualifications

• Doctor of Optometry (OD) or equivalent clinical training preferred
• Active California optometrist license required or eligible to obtain
• Experience providing clinical optometry services; correctional health experience is a plus
• Ability to pass background checks and meet facility clearance requirements
• Strong clinical documentation skills and familiarity with electronic medical records
• Professional, patient-focused communication and teamwork skills

Education

• Doctor of Optometry (OD) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficiency in comprehensive eye exams and refraction
• Knowledge of ocular disease recognition and basic management
• Experience with contact lens fitting and spectacle prescriptions
• Comfort working in a correctional healthcare environment
• Good clinical decision making and patient education skills
• Familiarity with standard infection control and safety procedures
