Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive optometry services including eye exams, refractions, and vision assessments
• Identify and document ocular disease and make appropriate referrals or treatment recommendations
• Fit and instruct patients on contact lenses and assist with vision correction plans
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation and comply with facility protocols and security requirements
• Deliver clear, compassionate patient education and ensure continuity of care
• Participate in a 1-week training program and help onboard or train staff as needed

Qualifications

• Doctor of Optometry (OD) degree preferred
• Active California optometry license or ability to obtain state licensure
• Experience performing comprehensive eye exams and contact lens fittings
• Comfort working in a correctional facility environment and following facility security procedures
• Strong communication skills and the ability to train others (training required for 1 week)
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) preferred or willing to obtain

Education

• Doctor of Optometry (OD) preferred; active CA license or eligibility required

Knowledge & Skills

• Clinical proficiency in refraction, binocular vision assessment, and ocular health evaluations
• Knowledge of ocular disease detection, diagnosis, and referral processes
• Patient-centered communication and education skills
• Familiarity with electronic medical records and accurate clinical documentation
• Ability to work independently while collaborating with medical and custodial staff
