Roles & Responsibilities

• Serve as the scrub person in the OR, partnering closely with surgeons and RNs to maximize patient safety
• Prepare and assure completion of case carts according to preference cards so every procedure runs smoothly
• Recognize and interpret preference cards to procure the correct instruments and supplies for each case
• Coordinate with Sterile Processing and Materials Management to manage instrumentation and supply flow
• Review the daily surgical schedule with charge nurse and SPD to identify and prevent turnover delays
• Manage OR communications, delegate duties as needed, and coordinate breaks and lunches for the team
• Act as a departmental resource for instrumentation and supply procurement for scheduled and unscheduled procedures

Qualifications

• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential required
• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program or equivalent military surgical technologist training
• American Heart Association BLS certification required
• Comfortable functioning as the OR scrub person and using sterile technique consistently
• Excellent communication skills and ability to coordinate with SPD and Materials Management
• Willingness to work weekends and participate in on-call rotations

Education

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program (or equivalent military surgical technologist program)

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong knowledge of human anatomy and common surgical procedures
• Expertise with surgical instrumentation and sterile technique
• Ability to read and implement preference cards accurately
• Skill in case cart setup and turnover coordination
• Familiarity with equipment function and safety protocols in the OR
• Team-oriented communication and coordination skills across departments
