Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide expert perioperative nursing care as a scrub or circulating RN in a busy acute care OR
• Prep patients and equipment for a wide variety of cases including ortho, urology, GYN, neuro, vascular, general, ENT, pediatrics, bariatrics, and ophthalmology
• Operate and assist with robotic procedures (DaVinci) and advanced instrumentation with precision and safety
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia, CSTs, and the multidisciplinary team to ensure smooth operative flow
• Maintain sterile technique, anticipate surgical needs, and manage instruments during procedures
• Perform thorough pre- and post-operative assessments and document care in Cerner Surginet
• Respond to on-call situations promptly with a 30-minute call response time and provide safe patient care
• Support orientation and mentorship for new staff and contribute to continuous improvement efforts

Qualifications

• Active California Registered Nurse (RN) license required
• Minimum 3 years of OR experience in an acute care setting (surgery center experience alone is not sufficient)
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
• Strong experience with Cerner Surginet charting and clinical documentation
• Hands-on experience across the listed surgical specialties and with robotics required
• Willingness to participate in on-call rotation and to live/stay within a 30-minute radius of the hospital
• Ability to float to nearby Mercy Downtown site (approx 6.5 miles)
• Scrubbing experience is a plus but not strictly required

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) acceptable - BSN not required
• Active California RN license
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS

Knowledge & Skills

• Perioperative nursing principles and acute care protocols
• Sterile technique, instrument handling, and surgical counts
• Familiarity with DaVinci robotic systems and robotic case workflows
• Experience across ortho, urology, gynecology, neurosurgery, vascular, general surgery, ENT, pediatrics, and bariatrics
• Proficient documentation skills in Cerner Surginet
• Strong communication, teamwork, and rapid decision-making under pressure
• Ability to adapt to construction-related noise and changing OR environments
