Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate post-anesthesia care for pediatric patients, ensuring smooth recoveries
• Monitor vital signs and assess patient status continuously, acting quickly on changes
• Administer medications and pain management per orders with careful documentation
• Perform thorough handoffs and communicate effectively with anesthesia, surgeons, and families
• Maintain a safe, calm environment for children and their families during recovery
• Participate in unit orientation and training to uphold Shriners' high standards of care

Qualifications

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license (eligible to practice in Massachusetts preferred)
• BLS required; PALS and/or ACLS preferred or willing to obtain
• Prior experience in PACU and pediatric nursing is highly valued
• Comfortable with pediatric assessment, IVs, medication administration, and post-op monitoring
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Post-anesthesia care principles and pediatric recovery protocols
• Pediatric assessment and pain management techniques
• Familiarity with electronic health records and accurate clinical documentation
• Ability to prioritize and respond quickly in a fast-paced PACU environment
• Compassionate family-centered care and effective caregiver communication
