Shift Type: Rotating shifts (8-, 10- and 12-hour) including days, evenings, nights and weekends/holidays; variable schedule with hours tracked per two-week period; on-call 0-3 times/month (includes 8-hour night on-call shifts and occasional 24-hour weekend/holiday coverage).

Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate pre-operative care and monitor patients through Phase I and Phase II recovery
• Perform continuous patient assessment including vital signs, incision checks and temperature monitoring
• Manage post-anesthesia care using critical-care thinking to identify and escalate complications promptly
• Safely operate and monitor unit equipment including PCA pumps, Braun IV pumps, HP and Philips monitors, Pyxis and Cryocuff
• Document care accurately in the electronic medical record (Meditech) and communicate handoffs clearly
• Participate in unit on-call coverage and support colleagues across ASU and PACU as needed
• Adhere to infection control, patient safety standards and facility policies including vaccination/exception protocols

Qualifications

• Valid State of Hawaii professional nursing license required by start of assignment
• Minimum: 2+ years experience as a critical care RN (ER/ICU) — may substitute for direct PACU experience
• Current BLS and ACLS from the American Heart Association required
• PALS (AHA) recommended and may be required for certain assignments
• Other specialty certifications (NIHSS, TNCC) preferred and may be required for specific roles
• Comfortable with variable shifts, on-call responsibilities and working across PACU/ASU units

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong knowledge of post-anesthesia care and anesthesiology principles for Phase I recovery
• Skills in patient assessment, vital signs monitoring and incision/site evaluation
• Familiarity with Meditech electronic charting and unit technologies (PCA pumps, Pyxis, Braun IV pumps, Cryocuff, SCDs, Bair PAWS warmers)
• Ability to use HP and Philips patient monitoring systems confidently
• Critical-care thinking, rapid assessment and effective escalation skills
• Excellent communication and teamwork in fast-paced perioperative settings
