Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide focused cardiovascular and stepdown nursing care for patients recovering from cardiac procedures (PTCA, stents, TAVR, MitraClip, bi-ventricular pacemakers)
• Monitor cardiac telemetry and interpret EKGs to detect and respond to changes in patient status
• Deliver post-operative cardiac nursing care, including assessment, medication administration, and wound management
• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary care team to develop and implement patient-centered care plans
• Educate patients and families about cardiac conditions, post-op care, and discharge planning
• Participate in clinical trials and NISUS research activities as appropriate for unit initiatives
• Support unit safety and quality initiatives that contributed to the unit’s AACN redesign and Beacon recognition

Qualifications

• Michigan RN license required (LARA and Nursys verification required)
• ACLS certification required
• BLS certification required
• 1+ year of Stepdown/unit experience - REQUIRED
• Proficiency in cardiac care and comfort with EKG interpretation - REQUIRED
• Travel nursing experience required; willingness to float to similar units - REQUIRED
• Skills checklist completed within one year for RN specialties

Knowledge & Skills

• Cardiac monitoring and telemetry expertise
• EKG interpretation and acute cardiac assessment
• Post-operative cardiac and stepdown care
• Congestive heart failure management and electrophysiology knowledge
• Experience with PTCA, stents, TAVR, MitraClip, and pacemaker care
• Strong interdisciplinary communication and patient education skills
• Familiarity with clinical trials and NISUS research processes
