Roles & Responsibilities

Empower patients with diabetes, prediabetes, and gestational diabetes through expert education and personalized case management
Maintain vital diabetes registries to ensure top-tier tracking and care
Guarantee patients receive essential annual exams, labs, immunizations, and education per IHS Standards
Collaborate with the SEARHC Diabetes team to drive primary and secondary prevention goals
Lead the annual IHS Diabetes Audit with precision and impact
Leverage audit data and tools to deliver the highest quality care
Train medical providers, dietitians, nurses, and staff on IHS Standards through dynamic programs
Support SEARHC Seven Standards of Excellence while assisting staff, visitors, and patients with warmth and efficiency

Qualifications

Valid current RN license in Alaska
Certified Diabetes Educator or eligible to certify within 2 years
Clinical Competency assessment within 3 months of hire and every 3 years
3 years general nursing or dietetic experience preferred
1 year in diabetic care and management preferred

Education

Registered Nurse (RN) license required

Knowledge & Skills

Diabetes case management practices and procedures
Health promotion and patient education techniques
Customs of Alaska Native groups
Performing specialized diabetic care procedures
Tact and sensitivity in high-stress situations
Strong oral and written communication
Computer proficiency
Teaching and organization skills
