Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess and reassess patients, then plan, implement and evaluate nursing interventions that make a measurable difference in recovery
• Provide compassionate pre-admission testing and pre-operative preparation so surgeries proceed safely and smoothly
• Perform thorough nursing assessments including blood draws and EKGs to ensure patients are ready for day surgery
• Administer medications and IV therapy safely and document patient responses accurately
• Coordinate discharge planning and patient/family teaching to support recovery at home
• Prioritize care, delegate appropriately, and escalate concerns to maintain patient safety
• Initiate and document timely post-operative phone calls to support continuity of care
• Promote learning by functioning as a preceptor, trainer, and active participant in professional development

Qualifications

• Current MA Registered Nurse license required
• Current ACLS and PALS required
• Minimum one year acute care nursing experience required
• IV certification preferred and proficiency in peripheral IV insertion required
• Experience in Surgical Day Care (SDC), Pre-Admission Testing (PAT), Endoscopy, or OR is preferred
• Ability to perform nursing assessments, medication reconciliation, blood draws and EKGs
• Willingness to participate in on-call rotation including nights, weekends and holidays

Education

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing

Knowledge & Skills

• Patient assessment, care planning and implementing nursing interventions
• Pre-operative and post-operative care specific to day surgery patients
• IV therapy, medication administration and pain assessment
• Documentation, medication reconciliation and accurate clinical reporting
• Delegation, supervision and prioritization of patient care
• Patient and family teaching with attention to readiness and barriers to learning
• Risk identification, patient safety practices and incident reporting
