Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality perioperative and postoperative nursing care for cardiovascular surgery patients
• Monitor and interpret hemodynamic data, telemetry, and invasive lines to detect changes quickly
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and multidisciplinary teams to coordinate patient care
• Perform and document thorough patient assessments and maintain accurate, timely charting
• Implement evidence-based infection control and sterile techniques in all procedures
• Educate patients and families on procedures, recovery expectations, and discharge planning
• Respond promptly to patient needs and clinical emergencies with critical thinking and calm action

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Texas or eligible via Nurse Licensure Compact
• Minimum 1 year of clinical nursing experience (cardiovascular surgery, progressive care, or CV ICU experience preferred)
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred
• Travel nurse credentialing completed (or ability to complete quickly) and up-to-date immunizations/health screening
• Strong clinical assessment, communication, and teamwork skills

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Post-operative cardiovascular surgery care and chest tube management
• Hemodynamic monitoring and basic EKG rhythm recognition
• Familiarity with telemetry, central lines, arterial lines, and chest drains
• Skilled in patient and family education, discharge planning, and care coordination
• Ability to prioritize, triage, and respond effectively in high-acuity situations
