Roles & Responsibilities

• Lead charge responsibilities on the Med Surg/Post-Surgical unit, guiding the team and ensuring safe patient flow
• Assess patients on admission and throughout their stay, updating plans of care with patients and caregivers
• Administer IV medications, manage IV therapy, and safely transfuse blood and blood products per policy
• Implement and monitor restraint and seclusion care with validated competency and thorough documentation
• Coordinate care with the interdisciplinary team to ensure smooth transitions and excellent outcomes
• Provide clear, timely clinical documentation and handoffs to maintain continuity of care
• Mentor and support bedside staff, contributing to a positive, patient-focused unit culture

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse (RN) licensure required
• BLS certification required
• Demonstrated competency with restraints and seclusion; competency must be validated by the employing agency
• Ability and willingness to function as Charge Nurse
• Experience administering IV medications, IV therapy, and blood/blood product administration
• Medical-surgical and post-surgical nursing experience (orthopedics experience preferred)
• One year of previous nursing experience preferred
• Travelers with license actions or adverse background hits will not be considered
• Must not be a previous employee of St. Mary's (per client requirement)

Knowledge & Skills

• Patient assessment and application of the nursing process
• Direct and indirect patient care on Med Surg/Post-Surgical units
• IV therapy and IV medication administration
• Blood/blood product administration and monitoring
• Restraint and seclusion implementation and monitoring
• Charge duties: prioritization, delegation, and unit coordination
• Strong clinical judgment, communication, and teamwork skills
