Roles & Responsibilities
- Lead patient care on the NICU floor by coordinating nursing assignments and ensuring safe, high-quality care
- Oversee clinical priorities for the shift and provide hands-on support to the team
- Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists, and other disciplines to develop and implement individualized care plans
- Coach and mentor staff nurses, promoting best practices and professional growth
- Manage admissions, discharges, and transfers to maintain smooth unit flow
- Monitor unit performance metrics and participate in quality improvement initiatives
- Communicate clearly and compassionately with families, keeping them informed and involved in care decisions
Qualifications
- Valid RN license (state of practice) required
- Current BLS certification required; NRP preferred or required by some facilities
- Experience working in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and familiarity with NICU equipment and protocols
- Charge nurse or leadership experience in a clinical setting
- Ability to pass background check and required health screenings or immunizations
- Strong communication, critical thinking, and team leadership skills
Education
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required; BSN preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Skilled in neonatal assessment and interpretation of clinical data
- Familiar with ventilator management and respiratory support for neonates
- Proficient with hemodynamic monitoring and infusion therapy in neonates
- Competent in electronic medical record documentation and care coordination
- Knowledgeable about infection prevention, safe medication administration, and family-centered care
- Strong leadership, delegation, and conflict-resolution abilities
