Roles & Responsibilities

• Scrub for cardiovascular and general surgical procedures across neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations
• Prepare and maintain sterile field and surgical instrumentation for CVOR cases
• Assist the surgical team intraoperatively with instruments, supplies, and procedural needs
• Ensure accurate counts, proper handling of specimens, and documentation of intraoperative events
• Collaborate with nurses and surgeons to maintain patient safety, confidentiality, and efficient OR flow
• Maintain and troubleshoot surgical equipment and ensure readiness of CVOR-specific instruments

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program (required for hires post-2009)
• Minimum 1 year of experience as a Surgical Technologist with Cardiovascular OR (CVOR) specialty experience
• BCLS certification required
• Certification by an approved body preferred (e.g., NBSTSA - CST or NCCT - TS-C)
• Ability to function independently and reliably in a fast-paced OR environment; on-call availability required

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficient computer and keyboarding skills for documentation and OR systems
• Sound clinical judgment, tact, diplomacy, and commitment to patient confidentiality
• Strong scrub technique and familiarity with CVOR procedures and instruments
• Ability to work independently within established protocols and as part of a multidisciplinary team
• Good communication skills and professional bedside manner
