Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, high-quality patient care on a 15-bed Med/Surg swing bed unit
• Perform thorough assessments and implement nursing interventions for diagnoses such as pneumonia, cellulitis, CHF and COPD
• Monitor telemetry and interpret strips as appropriate; respond promptly to changes in patient status
• Use EPIC to document patient care accurately and communicate changes to the care team
• Operate and support respiratory devices (CPAP, BiPAP, AirVo) for short-interval therapy and assist with transfers for acute vents/BiPAP
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members and support charge nurse responsibilities when assigned
• Maintain infection control and unit-specific policies (including fingernail/artificial nail policy) to ensure patient safety
• Participate in orientation and skills validation, demonstrating competency with an open-book skills exam

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license appropriate for practice
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications (required)
• Driver's license required at submittal to confirm radius eligibility
• Minimum ~2 years of relevant Med/Surg nursing experience preferred
• Ability to work 12-hour day shifts and cover every 3rd weekend as scheduled
• Willingness to complete unit-specific orientation and pass required skills validation (90% pass threshold)
• Must not be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility (CHI/Dignity)

Education

• Active RN licensure (required)
• BSN not required (ADN/diploma accepted)

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong Med/Surg clinical skills and patient-centered care
• Telemetry monitoring and basic rhythm interpretation
• Proficiency with EPIC electronic charting
• Familiarity with respiratory support modalities: CPAP, BiPAP, AirVo; safe handling and transfer of ventilated patients
• Effective communication, teamwork, and time management in a fast-paced acute care setting
• Ability to follow unit protocols, charge nurse coordination, and safe patient handling
