Roles & Responsibilities

• Process, clean, and sterilize surgical instruments and trays to ensure patient safety
• Perform decontamination and sterile packaging following established protocols
• Operate and monitor sterilization equipment such as Sterad and Steris with precision
• Run washer disinfection and steam sterilization cycles and document results
• Verify sterilization parameters and maintain accurate records in the charting system (Cerner)
• Supply the OR with sterile trays and instruments, responding promptly to clinical needs
• Inspect instruments for function and cleanliness, reporting any issues for repair or removal
• Follow infection control practices and contribute to a culture of safety in the department

Qualifications

• IAHCSMM or CBSPD certification required (must be certified)
• CSPDT verification required for submission
• BLS certification required
• Minimum 2 years of sterile processing experience
• Hands-on experience with Sterad, Steris, washer disinfection, and steam disinfection
• Familiarity with OR workflows and Cerner charting preferred
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to infection control standards

Knowledge & Skills

• Sterile processing and instrument sterilization best practices
• Decontamination, packaging, and sterile technique
• Operation and troubleshooting of sterilization equipment (Sterad, Steris)
• Washer disinfection and steam sterilization cycle management
• Accurate documentation and charting in Cerner
• Effective communication with OR staff and multidisciplinary teams
• Infection prevention principles and quality assurance
