Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide expert cardiovascular critical care to post-op open heart, thoracic, vascular and complex cath/structural heart patients
• Manage advanced life support devices and therapies including ECMO, CRRT, Impella and IABP
• Titrate vasopressors, sedatives, paralytics and antiarrhythmics safely and according to protocols
• Monitor and interpret telemetry and cardiac strips independently in the absence of monitor techs
• Operate and troubleshoot ventilators and respiratory equipment and collaborate with RTs
• Document accurately in Epic and communicate clear handoffs with multidisciplinary teams
• Support bedside stabilization and complex post-operative recovery with attention to detail
• Float to other inpatient units as needed, maintaining high standards of patient care

Qualifications

• Active RN license (state of practice) required for submission
• Required certifications: ACLS and BLS; NIHSS required per unit
• Minimum 1 year experience caring for CVICU or comparable advanced cardiac/critical care patients
• Comfort and competence titrating drips and managing hemodynamically unstable patients
• Experience with telemetry interpretation, ventilator management, and device-supported patients (ECMO, CRRT, Impella, IABP)
• Driver's license required at time of submittal to meet facility radius rules
• Willingness to comply with facility policies (example: fingernail/artificial nail policy) and pass orientation competency (90% pass on open-book skills exam)
• Ability to work every other weekend and holiday rotation as needed

Education

• Active RN licensure (BSN not required)

Knowledge & Skills

• Critical care nursing and cardiac ICU best practices
• Telemetry interpretation and reading cardiac strips
• Ventilator management and respiratory troubleshooting
• Medication/drip titration and advanced hemodynamic monitoring
• Familiarity with ECMO, CRRT, Impella and IABP support
• Proficiency with Epic charting system
• Experience supporting cath lab and structural heart program patients
• Strong interdisciplinary communication and emergency response skills
