Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide safe, compassionate labor and delivery care for antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum patients
• Attend deliveries and manage newborn stabilization during C-sections with support from RT and anesthesia
• Perform fetal monitoring per AWHONN Advanced Fetal Monitoring guidelines and respond to changes promptly
• Function as charge nurse when assigned, coordinating unit workflow and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams
• Float to medical-surgical areas when census requires, completing unit-specific orientation prior to floating
• Document patient care accurately and timely using Cerner EMR
• Support patient transfers for high-acuity neonates (coordinate with regional centers when needed)
• Participate in holiday rotation and unit staffing to maintain continuous, high-quality care

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in California
• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience (Labor & Delivery experience required)
• Current BLS (AHA), NRP, and ACLS certifications
• AWHONN Advanced Fetal Monitoring (AFM) certification required
• COVID-19 vaccination required (per facility policy)
• Experience charting in Cerner or comparable EMR
• Comfort with ratios ranging from 1:1 to 1:4 and ability to work independently when small teams are onsite
• Willingness to float to MedSurg and perform charge nurse duties as assigned

Education

• Active RN license (California)
• BSN not required

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong labor and delivery clinical assessment and intervention skills
• Neonatal resuscitation knowledge and hands-on experience
• Proficiency in fetal monitoring interpretation and AWHONN protocols
• Ability to stabilize newborns during C-section and coordinate with RT and anesthesia
• Competency using Cerner EMR for documentation and orders
• Adaptability to work in a small unit environment with occasional crossover to MedSurg
• Effective communication and teamwork skills in high-stakes situations
• Triage and critical thinking skills for timely escalation and transfer decisions
