Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide expert, compassionate care to high-acuity cardiac surgery and CVICU patients, including post-op monitoring and recovery
• Continuously assess hemodynamics and manage invasive devices (Swan-Ganz, IABP, central lines) with precision
• Perform and maintain sterile procedures such as Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes to unit standards
• Monitor and respond to dysrhythmias—must pass dysrhythmia competency exam prior to acceptance
• Collaborate with intensivists, RTs, pharmacists and the multidisciplinary team to optimize patient outcomes
• Document care accurately in Cerner and communicate clear handoffs during shift changes
• Participate in SIMs Lab and orientation activities (pass/fail competencies) and maintain a focus on sterile technique
• Float to support other ICUs and telemetry units when needed, maintaining flexibility and teamwork

Qualifications

• Active RN licensure in the state of practice (must be able to submit license)
• Minimum 2 years of ICU experience; CVICU/CTICU experience strongly preferred
• Level I Trauma experience REQUIRED
• BLS and ACLS certifications required; CCRN preferred
• Demonstrated IV skills and comfort with high-acuity bedside procedures (Swans, bronchoscopy assistance, epidurals)
• Experience with IABP, ECMO, CRRT, and post-cardiac surgery care highly desired
• Ability to pass a dysrhythmia exam (2 attempts allowed) and day-1 SIMs Lab competencies (Foley insertion, central line dressing changes)
• Travel-specific requirements: own vehicle for travel teams, natural hair color, no facial piercings; men must be clean shaven for fit testing

Education

• Active RN (Registered Nurse) licensure required

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficiency with Cerner charting and documentation
• Telemetry and dysrhythmia interpretation (Philips telemetry experience helpful)
• Strong sterile technique and procedural competence (Foley, central lines, ports)
• Hemodynamic monitoring and vasoactive medication management
• Care of post-op cardiac surgery patients (CABG, TAVR, thoracic procedures)
• Experience with advanced support devices (IABP, ECMO, Swans, CRRT)
• Excellent critical thinking, prioritization, and communication skills in high-stress environments
