Shift Type: Nights, 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM (12-hour night shifts). Schedule specifics vary by rotation; includes 4 weekend shifts per 4 weeks, holidays based on unit coverage. May be placed on standby for a scheduled shift. Floating required between ICU and Tele units. Shift type: night

Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality critical care nursing for Neuro ICU patients, including pre- and post-op neurosurgical care
- Perform focused neuro assessments and manage intracranial pressure monitoring
- Care for patients with external ventricular drains (EVD) and other complex neuro devices
- Maintain sterile technique for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes; demonstrate competency in SIMs Lab
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including RT, pharmacy, and neurosurgery to optimize patient outcomes
- Document care accurately in Cerner and escalate changes in patient condition promptly
- Float to Tele units when required, managing a telemetry patient load per unit expectations
- Participate in unit orientation and competency validation (floor-specific orientation: 2 shifts)
Qualifications
- Current RN license (eligible to work in Arizona) and active BLS and ACLS certifications
- Minimum 2 years of ICU experience in a large hospital (450+ beds) required
- Required Level 1 trauma experience
- Required EVD (external ventricular drain) experience and strong neuro assessment skills
- Experience with ICP monitoring, ventilators, and Phillips monitors preferred
- Comfortable with Cerner charting and critical care documentation
- Travel experience of 3-6 months preferred; travel teams must have their own vehicle
- Must pass DYS exam prior to accepting assignment (two attempts allowed); must pass SIMs Lab skills and orientation assessments
- Ability to float between ICU and Tele units and work a 1:2 ICU patient ratio
- Facility requirements: natural hair color and no facial piercings; men must be clean-shaven for fit testing
Knowledge & Skills
- In-depth knowledge of neuro ICU care, neurosurgical procedures, and common neuro diagnoses
- Skill with ICP monitoring and interpreting neuro trends
- Competence in sterile technique, Foley insertion, and central line dressing changes
- Telemetry interpretation and ventilator management skills
- Strong assessment, triage, and critical thinking for rapid changes in patient condition
- Effective communication and teamwork with multidisciplinary staff
- Proficiency with Cerner electronic medical record system
