Roles & Responsibilities

• Oversee the delivery of patient care using the full nursing process — assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation
• Direct and coordinate nursing care across the clinic to ensure safe, efficient patient flow
• Serve as a clinical resource and mentor to staff, offering guidance on best practices
• Collaborate with other RN charge nurses and interdisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes
• Provide age-appropriate and culturally sensitive care for patients from birth through elder
• Administer treatments and medications, interpret diagnostic tests, and deliver patient/family education
• Support clinic operations by supervising unit secretaries, PCTs, CMAs, LPNs, and RNs
• Assist with staffing needs by reviewing resumes and coordinating agency or travel nursing staff

Qualifications

• Current Alaska Registered Nurse license in good standing
• Completed an NLN-approved nursing education program (RN); BSN preferred
• Current BLS certification required
• Minimum 4 years of charge nurse experience in a clinic or urgent care setting
• Demonstrated supervisory skills and experience managing clinical staff
• Ability to pass and maintain required competencies for the role
• Flexible with scheduling and able to work independently within established protocols

Education

• Graduate of an NLN-approved nursing program (RN)
• BSN preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong command of the nursing process and care planning
• Medication administration and interpretation of diagnostic tests
• Patient and family education with clear, compassionate communication
• Knowledge of medical terminology and clinic workflows
• Proficiency with common office and medical equipment and basic computer skills
• Ability to manage care across the continuum and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams
• Cultural competence and the ability to apply age-specific considerations
• Good mathematical and reasoning skills for safe clinical decision-making
