Contract Type: Travel Contract

Shift Type: Rotating shifts including day and night coverage. Primary 12-hour shifts: 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM and 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM; additional options include 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM, 3:00 PM - 11:00 PM and 11:00 PM - 7:00 AM. Self-scheduling based on seniority (union), every-other weekend and every-other holiday rotation; schedule varies across all days of the week.

Candidate Pay Rate: $58 per hour

Roles & Responsibilities

• Deliver compassionate, hands-on psychiatric nursing care to adolescent and adult patients in a locked inpatient unit
• Use proven de-escalation techniques and strong communication to maintain a therapeutic and safe environment
• Perform consistent patient rounding and participate actively in 15-minute checks and direct care activities
• Collaborate with mental health techs, occupational therapy, social work and RT to coordinate comprehensive care
• Follow unit protocols for seclusion and mechanical restraints when required and document interventions thoroughly
• Accurately chart patient care and clinical assessments in EPIC
• Float within the hospital as needed for helping hands or 1:1 assignments, demonstrating flexibility and teamwork

Qualifications

• Active RN license eligible to practice in North Dakota
• BLS certification (required)
• CHI Health Workplace Violence Prevention (required)
• CPI training preferred
• Minimum ~2 years of acute/inpatient nursing experience preferred (psych inpatient experience highly valued)
• Comfortable working with adolescents and adults and able to remain calm, patient and slow to anger in crisis situations
• Ability to work 12-hour shifts and participate in self-scheduling (union environment)

Education

• Active RN license required
• BSN preferred but not required

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong psychiatric nursing skills, including behavioral assessment and crisis intervention
• De-escalation and therapeutic communication expertise
• Familiarity with EPIC charting system
• Experience collaborating with mental health techs and interdisciplinary teams
• Knowledge of seclusion/restraint procedures and safety protocols
• Familiarity with CPAP/BiPAP and basic respiratory support; IV experience is a plus but not required
