Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide expert neuro-critical care for patients with complex neurosurgical and neuro-trauma diagnoses
• Manage EVDs and perform ICP monitoring with vigilance and accuracy
• Operate and manage ventilators in coordination with respiratory therapy
• Perform skilled procedures such as Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes (SIMs Lab competency required)
• Document patient care and assessments precisely in Cerner
• Float between ICU and Tele units as needed and safely manage varied patient loads (may be 1:2 in ICU, 4:1 on Tele)
• Maintain sterile technique and pass SIMs Lab requirements to meet facility expectations
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (RT, pharmacy, surgical teams) to optimize patient outcomes

Qualifications

• Active RN licensure (willing to wait for state license submission per posting)
• BLS and ACLS certifications required
• Minimum ICU experience; 2 years in a large (450+ bed) facility preferred — will consider candidates with 18 months Neuro ICU experience
• Required Level 1 Trauma experience
• Required EVD experience
• 3–6 months travel experience preferred for travelers
• Must pass DYS exam prior to accepting assignment (two attempts allowed)
• Must successfully complete pass/fail SIMs Lab components (Foley insertion, central line dressing change or port-a-cath insertion where applicable)
• Ability to float to Tele/ICU and manage variable patient assignments
• Travel teams must provide their own vehicle; 50-mile radius rule applies (driver's license is source of truth)
• Facility grooming/fit-test requirements: natural hair color, no facial piercings, men must be clean shaven for fit testing

• BSN (as indicated in posting)

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong neuro assessment skills and familiarity with neurosurgical diagnoses
• ICP monitoring and EVD management expertise
• Ventilator management and partnership with respiratory therapy
• Proficiency with Cerner electronic medical records
• Experience with Phillips monitors and other ICU monitoring systems
• Competence in sterile technique, central line care, and Foley catheter insertion
• Ability to triage and manage critical care patients at a 1:2 ICU ratio
• Comfort floating across ICU and Tele units and adapting to different protocols
