Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality telemetry nursing care for high-acuity patients, including post-cath and CABG recovery.
• Interpret cardiac strips and sign off on telemetry readings in collaboration with monitor techs.
• Safely manage IV drips (e.g., amiodarone, cardizem, heparin) following hospital protocols.
• Perform timely assessments, recognize patient deterioration, and escalate to the team as needed.
• Document patient care accurately and efficiently in Cerner EMR and ensure clear handoffs.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams — hospitalists, RT, pharmacy, and unit aides — to coordinate care.
• Float to support med-surg, other telemetry units, and occasional ER holds as required.
• Contribute to a positive work environment by mentoring colleagues and demonstrating compassion under pressure.

Qualifications

• Active RN license in California (required).
• ACLS, BLS and NIHSS certifications (required).
• 2-3 years of telemetry or high-acuity acute care nursing experience (travelers must have 2-3 years).
• Demonstrated experience with drip management and cardiac strip interpretation (required).
• Experience charting in Cerner EMR and working with Philips telemetry monitors.
• Travel nursing experience preferred; flexibility to float across units (tele, med-surg, occasional ER).
• Comfort working in a busy, resource-limited environment with a positive, compassionate attitude.
• BSN preferred but not required; ability to complete required orientation hours.

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) — BSN preferred but not required
• Completion of required unit orientation (per hospital policy)

Knowledge & Skills

• Telemetry strip interpretation and cardiac rhythm recognition
• Drip management and IV medication safety (amiodarone, cardizem, heparin)
• Post-cath care, CABG recovery knowledge and high-acuity assessment
• Proficiency with Cerner electronic medical record charting
• Familiarity with Philips telemetry monitoring systems
• Respiratory support familiarity including BiPAP/CPAP and collaboration with RT
• Strong prioritization, situational awareness, and escalation skills
• Effective interdisciplinary communication and teamwork
